I Am That Mom

(This post may contain affiliate links. Read my full disclosure.)

I am THAT mom.  I am the mom who loves her kids so much it hurts.  The mom who will take ridiculous selfies with her kids to pass the time waiting for the doctor to come in the exam room. The mom that is dying for a shower after 2 days of wearing the same outfit or pajamas.  The mom who can’t wait to get groceries because it means a vacation.  The mom who steps on a toy, block, doll and swears – not always inside either.

I am that mom who thinks a Little Debbie’s oatmeal cream pie and milk is perfectly acceptable for breakfast – sometimes.  The mom who is at her wit’s end because my kids want PB&J three meals a day.  The mom who cries out of guilt because I yelled at my kids out of frustration, not necessity.  Not ever necessary,  maybe you know what I mean though.

I am that mom who has the TV on all day but tunes out the annoying songs, shows, movies.  The mom who can’t find balance between self-care, being a mom, being a wife and working at home.  The mom who has last night’s dinner dishes in the sink and it’s almost time for today’s dinner.  The mom who used a clean Disney kids towel because the other towels are still in the dryer downstairs.

I am that mom who shuts the playroom door rather than have the kids clean it up because I just don’t want to look at it.  Or think about it. The mom who will spend a gift card given to me and meant for me, on her kids.  The mom who will DVR Caillou because the kids like it – even though I cannot stand it.

I am that mom who has cancelled a business trip because I apparently hadn’t cut the cord on either of my babies yet.  Whether I still have or haven’t is questionable to this day. The mom whose best friends are a 5 year old girl and 4 year old boy.  The mom that needs to get out more.  The mom that needs to stay in more.

I am that mom who needs to stop cussing.  The mom who needs to speak up at certain times and bite her tongue during other times.  The mom who has seen Barney’s Great Adventure movie 8 times this week and it’s only Tuesday.  The mom who DVR’s her own shows all week but doesn’t watch them till Friday at midnight.

I am that mom who sticks to her grocery list but ends up getting fruit snacks and cookies because the kids wanted them and they’ve been good.  The mom who will make a regular dinner for her husband and self, but the kids don’t eat that (whatever that is) because it is disgusting!! So, I end up making a PB&J (for the 2nd time today), a bowl of cereal, mac & cheese or chicken nuggets.  I don’t want my kids to go hungry if they truly don’t like something I’ve made.  Even when they will not take a ‘no thank you bite’.

I am that mom who has one of her children literally climbing on my back as I type this.  The mom that is annoyed by that but lets them because it is like a free chiropractor visit. The mom that longs for a relaxing (haha) bubble bath, yet takes the fastest shower in America only to forget shaving her legs for that yearly lady parts visit.

I am that mom who needs to vacuum, dust, wash the windows, etc – WAY more often.  The mom who has a kitchen floor needing – screaming- to be mopped but I have happy kids.  The mom who forgets to write the last 4 transactions in the checkbook but thanks her lucky stars when it balances.

I am that mom.  I am me. I am you.  I am that mom.

    • Thank you Dawn. 🙂 I am getting better at doubting myself LESS. LOL That is why this was a therapeutic/freeing post.

  2. You ARE that mom. That mom is every mom. My sister always has stories like this. Wondering if she’s doing the right thing. Wondering if her punishment was too much or not enough. Wondering if what she’s doing now is going to lead to therapy for her two kids later. The fact that a mother worries about these things is proof that she’s a great mom, in my opinion.

I guess I am that mom, too. My kids had cupcakes for breakfast the other day.

  6. I can totally relate! However, I am the mom that is also upset because her 5 year old kindergartner had a bad report on her first day.

  9. One thing my kids could never say about me is that I’m a prude. I have always been outgoing, easy to talk to and love making my kids laugh yet when I say something I mean it.

  11. You are a great mom! Just the fact that you contemplate these things shows how much you care.

  12. Mothers are just people. We aren’t perfect, and we don’t always do the right thing. As long as we love our kids, though, it all works itself out.
