It is that time of year again where we all make new resolutions for self-improvement purposes. Some of us are striving to lose weight, improve our attitude, start new habits, or stop old habits. Whatever it may be, the most popular resolution is to be healthier. Striving to stay healthy is something we should all make a priority in our day-to-day lives. It is our lives we are talking about here! Your life is extremely valuable so it’s important to keep healthy, that why it is imperative to learn some good habits to keep yourself in check.   1. Create Goals Before Starting Anything

    Are you trying to improve your diet, change workout habits, or drink more water? Before you get started on improving the healthy habits you need to set strict goals. Setting new habits are just as difficult as getting rid of old habits. It is important that we have strict guidelines for ourselves because we will be tempted to break them if we aren’t setting them.Setting a goal will also help you see what you need to do to accomplish those goals. If, for instance, you’ve decided to hike as many national parks as possible in the next year, then you’ll need to invest in trekking and long-distance hiking and camping gear.


  1. Setting Realistic StandardsIn addition, you need to create realistic goals for yourself. Let’s say you are trying to buy a car and need to create healthier and better spending habits—be realistic! If you have bad credit, it can take years to repair, which is when you can shop for a bad credit auto loan. Rather than unrealistically assume your credit will be repaired in a couple months, look for ways to achieve your goals realistically.

    If you are setting your standards too high you are setting yourself up for failure! Take a moment of your time and get a journal or whiteboard and write down a list of healthy new goals you want to achieve by the end of the year. Remember, you aren’t expected to achieve every goal, but taking the step to pursuing your goals is a good start!


  1. Sync New Habits with Established HabitsHealthy habits do not start right off the bat, in fact, they can take a long time to form. The quickest route to ensuring these new healthy habits stick is by syncing them with some of your existing habits. For example, if you are trying to start an improved skin care routine, start by researching the best blackhead masks, toners, and lotions to figure out what skin care regimen works best for you. Don’t throw out the contents of your entire medicine cabinet but instead slowly incorporate the changes and new products you want to use. Another example is if you are trying to eliminate pharmaceuticals, like OTC painkillers, from your body, then slowly transition to natural pain killing products like Kratom while gradually cutting down on the pharmaceuticals you do use.  There are many ways you can take old habits and improve them to be healthy ones. Sit down and think of ways you can alter existing bad habits.


  1. Start SlowYou need to have patience if you want to start healthy habits. Nothing ever comes right away, especially if they are forced. Set a realistic pace for yourself, because if you don’t give yourself enough time to adjust to these new changes you are setting yourself up for failure.

If your goal is to start running every day, don’t start by running 3 miles, give yourself some leeway and run a mile and increase your miles each day. If your goal is to eat healthier, start by cutting out one thing at a time such as soda, chips, or other bad snacks and slowly add in healthier selections. Sometimes changing a diet drastically can do more harm than good!


  1. Accountability Is KeyHealthy habits need strong accountability. If you are serious about seeing improvements, you will need someone by your side that is willing to tell you the hard truth when you need to hear it. For instance, if you struggle with drug or alcohol addiction, then you need to check into a rehab facility that will hold you accountable for your actions and your promise to stay clean. You can also talk to healthcare professionals, even the doctor or nurse you see for your STD testing services. These professionals can point you to the right resources, and letting a medical professional know of your struggles will ensure that you are staying accountable to your own desires for change.

    The other option of accountability can be keeping track of your progress on an app or in a journal. You may need to invest a little at first such as hiring a fitness coach or signing up for a fitness plan. Some individuals need money involved to keep yourself in check with your new habits.


  1. Don’t Stop, Won’t StopDon’t stop, you are almost there! You will always have those days when you want to quit and you are ready to throw all your hard work down the toilet. But it’s OK. Your new healthy-living journey is not meant to be perfect we all have our struggles! However, It is important to make sure these little bumps in the road do not end your path to your new habits. Hold strong to your goals and believe in yourself!


  1. Reward YourselfNot everything needs to be difficult about making new healthy habits; in fact, it is something worth celebrating! You don’t need to be so hard on yourself, you have come a long way. Treat yourself to a nice steak dinner, invest in a new mattress to promote better sleep, or even get some friends together to celebrate your accomplishments over drinks.
